The first time you prepare for your trip to China, how can you be embarrassed to find information about your Chinese visa? Surely you want to know, do you need to get a visa to China? How many types of Chinese visas are there now? At which agency did you apply for a Chinese visa? What are the most accurate records and procedures? …..The article below, Luat va Ke toan Viet My will share with you all useful information about our Chinese visa service, so that you will prepare well for your upcoming trip.

1. Do you need a visa to go to China?

Currently, China does not apply visa waiver to Vietnamese citizens. Vietnamese citizens need to complete visa application procedures when they want to enter China.

Unless you fall under the following circumstances, a Chinese Visa is not required:

  • Travelers in areas of China ~100km from the Vietnamese border. In this case, you will need to apply for a Chinese passport.
  • You transit in the Chinese area within 24 hours and have no intention of leaving the transit area at the airport. In other transit cases, you need to apply for a transit visa to China.
  • You are subject to visa waiver under the visa waiver agreement signed between the Chinese government and other governments (without Vietnam)
  • You have a valid Resident License or Residency License for a Foreign National
  • You have a valid APEC travel card

2. Current Popular Chinese Visa Types

Chinese visas can be classified according to the following criteria:

2.1. Categorization of Chinese visas by entry purpose

There are 4 types of Chinese visas:

2.2. Categorization of Chinese visas by number of arrivals

  • A one-time entry visa: is a visa that allows you to enter China only once.
  • Double entry visa: is a visa that allows you to enter China twice within the visa period
  • Six-month entry visa multiple times: is a visa that allows you to enter China multiple times within six months.
  • Multi-year entry visa: is a visa that allows you to enter China several times within one year.

3. How long is the Chinese visa?

Here we summarize some common visas that Vietnamese often apply for the same entry period, length of stay and specific number of entry:

Visa Type Number of arrivals Deadline for entry Maximum duration of stay per entry
L 1 time 3 months (90 days) 15 or 30 days
M M 1 time 1 time 3 months (90 days) 15, 30, 60 or 90 days
M 2 time 2 time 3 months (90 days) 3 months (90 days)
M 2 time 2 time 6 months (180 days) 15 or 30 days
M many times Many times 6 months (180 days) 30 days
M many times Many times 1 year (365 days) 30 days
Q1 1 time 6 months (180 days) 30 days or temporary residence, permanent residence
Q2 Many times 3 months – 1 year 180 days
S1 1 time 90 Over 180 days
S2 1 time 90 180 days
X1 Many times 5 years Over 180 days

Particularly important note:

  • If there is no special note, the visa will be effective from the date it is signed and expired on the expiration date in Beijing time (at 24:00).
  • You need to leave China before your visa expires. If the time limit for entry and the number of times allowed to enter the country remain, the single route can reach China at any time within the visa validity period. If the immigration deadline is over but the number of times allowed remains, you are no longer allowed to go to China.
  • The Chinese Embassy in Vietnam cannot extend the entry validity period so if the visa is about to expire you need to reapply for a new visa to stay in the country.
  • You can extend your stay by submitting an application, however it is unlikely that your application will be approved. If you stay in China beyond your visa period, you will be fined with other penalties.
